Avon Breast Cancer Walk 2008
Our mission continued as we walked 39 miles for Breast Cancer Awareness, on October 4th - 5th, 2008. NYC. The experience continues to be amazing. The amount of support we have received from everyone involved has touched our HEARTS. Our Team this year consisted of SOC Distributors...Linda Skrypek, Rick Mieze (one of the very few men that participated, walks for his MOM, who died of Breast Cancer when he was 16. This was his second year to walk and he has been an unbelievable asset to our group, WE LOVE YOU RICK! )Debbie Jochum, Karen King, Connie Roberts , Megan Drescher, and Myself. Although Megan was unable to walk with us due to a scheduling conflict, she raised her money and was with us in spirit. Thank you Megan.
Our Weekend began on Friday as we were again on the Outside Segment of the Today Show. One more way to create awareness for this very worthy cause. The next day we were off to begin our walk, that took us all over NYC, and even across the Brooklyn Bridge. Along the route were so many cheering sections and people thanking you for walking for them. It brought tears to your eyes. At one corner we were cheered on by SOC distributors from Parkersburg, David and Janet Sams and Gina Westfall, that made the trip to NYC to be our Fan Club. Thanks Guys. After 26 miles, we were surprised, by my son, with a 30 min massage. The Massage Therapist actually came to us, what a treat. Oh my gosh! That was the absolute perfect ending to an absolutely perfect day.
The next day we were up early, and it was a rain storm, the rain was coming down in buckets. At 7 am as the Thunder and Lightning continued we decided we would give it until 8 am and if it had not stopped raining, we would start regardless. Our Family and Friends with Breast Cancer did not stop there Radiation or Chemo because it rained. A little rain would not hurt us, we would sing our way through it. At 7:55 and as we put all of our rain gear on, and started to walk, the sky brightened and it stopped raining. Talk about a surreal feeling. Leaving us another beautiful day to walk. GOD was with us, every step of the way.
We reached our Goal and raised over $12,000.00, and our 2 year total is over $25,000. Thanks to all who have helped us reach our goal.
I invite all of you to walk with us next year or find your passion and choose a worthy cause that you can give back to. Carding for a Cure, using the carding system , is an excellent tool to help you raise those donations to make a difference in the lives of others.
Thanks for all your support and see you next year. I will be fund raising through out the year so that I may walk next year to change a life and help create awareness for Breast Cancer. If I can help you in your mission to use Carding For A Cure with your worthy cause, use the link above.

To our "Carding for a Cure" Supporters,
I have been totally overwhelmed and moved to tears by
the support we have been receiving with the "Carding for a Cure" Mission.
I had a call from Distributors in San Juan that saw the article about
how we are using the Carding System to raise funds for our Avon Breast
Cancer Walk in the Success At Home Magazine. They wanted to use
the carding system to raise funds for a walk they are doing in
Disney World for Lymphoma. I have had requests for cards from all
over the country , for Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Aids,
just to name a few. I am so thrilled to see the Distributors of
SOC embrace this, and raise funds for many worthy cards.
I have created a gift account with many "Carding for a Cure"
Cards that you may share back to yourself and use for your
own fundraising efforts.

The Send Out Cards Team
Below is the story of last year's walk.
Hi,
My name is Zoe Morris and I am the “City Leader” for the St. Clairsville, OH EFTBN. At our 1st meeting on March 28th 2007 we decided that as part of our “giving back and bonding” process as a group, we would like to support something that we all thought deserved our attention.
I immediately thought of Lisa, a very close friend and fellow distributor. She had recently undergone surgery and radiation treatment for Breast Cancer. She is the “Ultimate Survivor”. I have never heard her complain, feel sorry for herself, or ask why through the whole process. She has two children and as emotionally and physically fatigued as she was at times, she never missed a beat. She even scheduled her radiation treatments in the morning on her way to work. What an amazing woman she is. Her prognosis is excellent and I feel it is due to all the advancements in early detection and treatment.
After suggesting that “Breast Cancer Awareness” be our Chapters Interest, we went around the room and everyone had a story about how someone very close to them had been affected by this disease. I’m sure you too, have been affected in some way.
So… Our MISSION was established.
Next… What do we do to make this happen?
The next day I went to the mailbox and guess what? Prevention Magazine arrived with an insert detailing the Avon Walks for Breast Cancer. Talk about the “Laws of Attraction! We will help find a cure.
The rest of the story is history in the making. My sister, Harriett Meade and my, “I AM” statements read “ CEO and President of the SOC “Carding for a Cure” Independent Distributor Foundation”.
The “Carding for a Cure” card was designed by me, with the help of Paul Cramer, a fellow distributor and an excellent graphic design guru.
My ultimate goal is for all of us, “The Independent Distributors” of SendOutCards, to use the “Carding for a Cure”, “One Card…One Donation at a Time” as a template to give back to worthy causes in whatever area your passions may be. Mine just happens to be Breast Cancer Awareness.
We would be able to raise millions of dollars for all types of charities… Autism, MS, Muscular Dystrophy, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society just to name a few. This would put SendOutCards on the map, as we walk the walk and talk the talk of our “giving to give” message. All that said, we are asking the SOC Family for their support and encouragement as we begin our 6 week drive to meet our physical and financial goals.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in honor of this, we are walking in the 39 mile Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Walk in NYC on October 6-7! Check out the SendOutCards Team at www.avonwalk.org. See details below.
Our team consists of Linda Skrypek, Patty Dunlap, Rick Mieze , Jeff Morris, Harriet Meade and myself. We would love for you to walk with us, it is not to late. If you cannot walk with us, please card for us. This will be “Our Yearly Story”, for our group. Join us, or create your own story.
Breast Cancer has affected nearly all of us in some way and we hope you can find it in your hearts to contribute to this INCREDIBLE CAUSE.

To my SOC Family,
We are continuing our training as the 39 mile walk is rapidly approaching. We are so excited about this adventure. One of our team mates will not be able to walk as she was having trouble with her feet and with testing realized she had bone spurs. OUCH!!! She is going to be our Cheerleader at the Start and Finish Line.
Thank you so much for the cards of encouragement and your generous donations. The SOC Family definitely live by the "Send to Give' Motto. As to date we have raised $9270.00 for the "Carding For A Cure" Breast Cancer Avon Walks. This would not have been possible without your SUPPORT!
To those that sent checks after Sept. 6th, they will be hand carried to NYC as that was the deadline for sending them in. They will appear on our Avon Walk website after the walk. Our website will remain in effect for months after the walk so check out your name on the scrolling banner.
The Challenge of this undertaking was just one more thing that SOC has inspired us to do. What Challenge would you like to accomplish? Step out of your comfort zone. All things are possible through GOD and SOC.

Hi Everyone,
Tomorrow we will be in NYC for our 39 Mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness. We will be outside at the Today Show, hoping to be interviewed, we will be wearing our "Carding for a Cure T-Shirts" and carrying our Sendoutcards
Banner. If you are up, watch for us and keep Our Sendoutcards Team, and all the people that have been affected by Breast Cancer in your Hearts and in your Prayers.
We reached our Goal of $10,000. Thank you for all your support.
Next year the walk will be OCT 4th and 5th. Please think about joining our team next year.
Today Show Oct 5th 7-9 am Watch for us.
Carding for a Cure"
I just returned from walking 39 miles in NYC with my SOC "Carding for a Cure" Team. The event was a fund raiser for Breast Cancer Awareness. We reached our GOAL of $10,000 thanks to the support of all of our Family, Friends, and our SOC Family.
On Friday, we went to the Today Show and were on the Outside Segment the last 5 min. of the show if anyone was watching. Our SOC sign, and SOC banner were shown many times during the course of the show.
We were moved to tears as well wishers along the route gave us signs of encouragement, water, snacks, and fruit. There were bands, cheerleaders, NYU and Columbia Sports Teams, Girl and Boy Scouts Troops all there to cheer us on and thank us for participating in this event.
We finished the walk 250, 251, 252 out of 4800 participants. As we crossed the finish line my observation was this....... no one taking pictures.
Yes, thousands finishing a life changing walk, most empowering experience of my life, and no one there taking pictures. No pictures at the Opening or closing Ceremony, no one along the route and no one at the finish line.
Do you think that is not a picture plus moment? Who would not be grateful for a card with their picture, of the life changing event?
Imagine this...Send Out Cards Teams in Multiple Charitable Events, Giving Back, Raising Funds for Charities of their Choice... The whole team raising money for the Charity, the day of the event, 1/2 the team participating, the other 1/2 of the team taking pictures, collecting addresses and meeting new people. What a wonderful way to Give Back and make new relationships.
The SOC "Carding for a Cure" T-Shirts, (made just like the Card that was approved by SOC Corporate) brought much attention to our team with many questions about Send Out Cards and what it was all about. We gave out many cards and took many addresses but were unprepared for the response we received.
This could very well be the Greatest way to Walk the Walk, and Talk the Talk of our Mission. Send out to Give, Give, Give. Put SOC on the Map with your Giving Spirit and make some new FRIENDS and Great Relationships in the process. Great Relationships lead to New Card Senders.
Join us next year.... Mark your calendars for Oct 4th and 5th, 2008. You will cherish the experience forever.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! From the Bottom of our Hearts!!!
Zoe Morris, Linda Skrypek, Patty Dunlap, Harriet Meade, Connie Blake, Rick Mieze, Jeff Morris
